KIDDER SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is named after former Dean of the College, George V. Kidder.
It was established by Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Ezequelle. To be eligible for the
Kidder Scholarship, a student must have her or his permanent residence outside
the state of Vermont, must be a U.S. citizen, have a cumulative grade point
average of at least 3.50 after three semesters of full-time enrollment at UVM,
have enrolled primarily in courses that represent the various disciplines in
the College of Arts and Sciences, and have demonstrated her or his commitment
to both academic and campus community activities.
Margaret Graciano - Kidder Scholar
Margaret is a sophomore pursuing a major in Environmental Studies and a minor
in Spanish.
Margaret Graciano is the treasurer of Vantage Point, UVM's art and literary magazine. She is a member of Students for Peace and Global Justice and co-organized the Oxfam Hunger Banquet to raise money for Oxfam and the Chittenden Food Shelf. Margaret is the Publicity Chair for the Outing Club. She has been an Outing Club leader with TREK and is one of five instructors leading WILD this semester. WILD is the UVM Outing Club's leadership training program, dedicated to cultivating wilderness leadership skills and is a mandatory requirement for all Outing Club trip leaders.
Margaret has also been involved in Free to Be, Food Salvage, Slade Environmental Cooperative and the Pottery Co-op.
Chase Whiting - Helzburg Scholar
Chase Whiting is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political
Science and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. His minor is Speech.
Chase is the Editor in Chief for the school newspaper, the Vermont Cynic.
He serves on the UVM Laurence Debate union and has competed in the
national-varsity policy debate circuit. Chase is a regular guest on the
television show Flashpoint, which features the discussion of current
political and social issues. Recently, Chase has created a non-profit
organization called SAFEH, or Students Advocating for Food, Education
and Health, which raises money for a community in El Salvador.
Preference shall be given to women entering their junior year who meet both of these criteria:
First, that they have shown academic promise and have demonstrated improved academic performance in their freshman and sophomore years.
Second, that they have demonstrated caring for others, whether fellow students or other people in the Burlington community or elsewhere, so that these awards may give promise of producing graduates of the university who put the privilege of the education it affords to work for concerns beyond self.
Makdyanet Cedeno - Clymer Scholar
Makdyanet Cedeno, a sophomore, has declared a major in Political Science. She
is active on campus serving as President of her sorority, Omicron Lambda Pi
Multicultural Sorority, a Resident Assistant with Residential Life, the secretary
of the Black Student Union and an active member of Alianza Latina. Through these
organizations, Makdyanet has been active in the UVM community as well in the
greater Burlington area. On campus she has helped with Black History Month, La
Comida, Noche de Cultura, the Dominican Independence Day party and the Soul Food
Social. Off campus, Makdyanet has worked with students at Burlington High School,
collected necessities for battered women, raised money for children with diabetes
and participated in AIDS walks. As she explains, "I will admit that it gets
hectic at times but when you see your hard work unfold at the end of the day,
it's all worth it."
Victoria Woronecki - Clymer Scholar
Victoria Woronecki is in her sophomore year pursuing a major in Biology and two minors,
Communication Sciences and Chemistry. She has volunteered at the Ronald
McDonald Family Room at Fletcher Allen Health Care since 2004. Since 2005, Victoria
has worked with the after-school program at Edmund's Elementary School in Burlington.
Within the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Victoria participates in community service
activities such as working with the children on the Pediatric floor and fundraising
for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. As a volunteer with the UVM Feel Good
Club, she cooks up donations of food products from local companies such as Klinger
Breads and City Market to create delicious sandwiches for donations to help end
world hunger. Victoria enjoys her campus and community involvement. It has shaped
her into the woman that she has become, "one who cares less about herself and more
about others."
Elizabeth Ehrlich - Hajim Scholar
Elizabeth Ehrlich, also a sophomore, is pursuing a major in History and a minor
in Anthropology. According to Elizabeth, the subject of history fascinates her.
Her special interest is in European history, specifically the Industrial Revolution
and its impact. Recently, Elizabeth was inducted as a member to the Phi Alpha
Theta history chapter. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate
Scholars, the UVM Catamount fencing club, and intramural sports.
