College of Arts and Sciences
2007 Dean's Award for Excellence in Staff Support

At the end of June, the Dean's office hosted the College of Arts and Sciences staff luncheon at the Burlington Boat House and for the first time, awarded the 2007 Dean's Award for Excellence to two staff members—Kathy Carolin from the Department of History and Dale Thibault from the Department of Communication Sciences.

Kathy Carolin has been an employee of UVM for 14 years, and for the past seven years she has been in the Department of History. According to her colleagues in the department, Kathy excels at every aspect of her position. She has exceptional organizational skills and has established an efficient operating system in addition to being an actively engaged citizen in the UVM community. She has served in leadership roles on the UVM Staff Council and the Human Resources Department Benefits Committee. Kathy's good humor and innate calm have made her an invaluable member of the College staff. "Kathy is the single most important component of the History Dept. I cannot imagine being here without her," said Professor Denise Youngblood.

Dale Thibault started working at UVM in 1982 and has been in the Department of Communication Sciences almost 15 years. According to her colleagues, Dale is the "glue that holds us together." She is always available to answer questions and solve problems. Dale seeks creative ways to address the department and clinics' financial and administrative needs. She has a rare combination of dedication, leadership, and service. In addition, Dale is a good UVM citizen. She was a UVM Staff Council member for eleven years serving as both Vice President and President.

Both Kathy and Dale are models of excellence and well deserving of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Award for 2007.
