Spotlighted Weekend Event: Fly Fishing Trip
Calling all Anglers!
Housatonic River
Friday, June 9th — 3:00 p.m.

His story is the dream of many. Music was always a major part of Brandon Dufour's '02
life, and he often dreamed of a career in the music industry. He was an avid listener
and fan of several musicians particularly the Dave Matthews Band. Little did he know
that within five short years, he would be working with Dave Matthews himself. Currently,
Brandon serves as the Office Manager / Assistant to the General and Label Managers at
ATO Records based...

Gunnery trustees, faculty, and administration gathered to honor Jin-Young "Clifford"
Yang '98 for his generous gift towards the renovation of the student mailboxes in the
lower level of the Frances & Leo D. Bretter '53 & P '88 Student Center. "When I was
a student here," said Clifford, "the mail boxes were wide open. There were no locks,
no security, and no privacy." As a student, Clifford pledged a gift towards the
installation of new mail boxes. With his generous donation, combination locks and mail
box doors were constructed. In her acknowledgement, Head of School Susan Graham said,
"Clifford was the first student during my tenure to make an unsolicited gift to the
school in support of a project in which he had a personal interest. He has continued
to support The Gunnery every year since his graduation." "I am very pleased that I
could make a difference," said Clifford. "The Gunnery meant a lot to me, and I
wanted to give something back." A native of Korea, Clifford returned to Seoul upon
his graduation from Syracuse University to work with various finance and business
companies on projects related to subway safety.

The highlight of the third annual NYC Alumni/Parent Theater Party was an intimate Q &
A session with Broadway star (and Gunnery parent) Patti LuPone. Gunnery alumni, parents,
and friends gathered at The Eugene O'Neill Theater in early May to see Ms. LuPone star
as "Mrs. Lovett" in the recent revival of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Alexander Compton, Class of 1893, went down with the ship. His classmate Richard
Beckwith who was on the ship with him wrote a stirring letter about his courage at
the time. He was an avid baseball player both at school and at subsequent reunions.
Every year the baseball captain(s) place flowers at a memorial stone with a plaque,
which sits under the baseball scoreboard. This year baseball coach, Ed Small, and
the captains also placed flowers at the memorial bench of another avid baseball
player, Teddy Ebersol '09.

Ground-breaking for the previously reported
Teddy House
is scheduled to begin
in the summer of 2006 with an expected opening in the fall of 2007. The new facility,
which replaces the current Bache Dorm, will house twenty-two students and will include
two study halls and expanded shower and bathroom facilities. Each dorm will also be
designed with a flexible configuration of faculty apartments allowing for as few as
two large three-bedroom apartments or as many as four smaller apartments.

When approaching her work, jewelry designer Serena Van Rensselaer '88 thinks outside
the box and mixes unusual, eclectic materials to produce innovative pieces which she
describes as "being more like sculpture than jewelry." Organic in nature, diamonds
will be set with pearls or sterling silver rivets will be mixed with wood. Since
graduating from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA with a BFA in Jewelry Fine Arts,
she designs, creates, and sells wholesale collections through showrooms to a clientele
in both the USA and Japan.

For their last semester as Gunnery students, several seniors have elected to work on
academic Independent Study Projects (ISPs) in the arts, sciences, and humanities.
The ISP program allows seniors to spend concentrated time on a particular subject of
interest to them utilizing resources that might not be available to them through the
regular Gunnery curriculum. They also have the opportunity to do hands-on work at a
site off campus, far from Washington, CT for up to 30 days.
