"Many of these students have no idea how talented they are," said Brian Lillie,
Visual Arts Department Chair, referring to the painters, sculptors, ceramicists,
photographers, writers, poets, and performers who were honored at the annual
Arts & Letters Luncheon for their contributions to the literary and visual
arts. "Gunnery arts programs have grown tremendously over the past few years,

Dear Incoming Student,
The Admissions Office would like to extend a special welcome to our new students
for the upcoming 2007-2008 school year. We have enjoyed getting to know you
throughout the admissions process, and know that each of you will be a terrific
addition to our school community.
The 2006-2007 school year was another remarkable year for The Gunnery. We are
proud of our strong college placements, creative successes in the arts, the
public recognition of some of our academic accomplishments, two New England
championships in baseball and girls' lacrosse as well as individual recognition
for scholar-athletes. Our students are committed to performing at their highest
level both in and out of the classroom while our faculty remains committed to
teaching and mentoring excellence.
We look forward to seeing you on campus in September as you become the newest
members of The Gunnery family. As always, please feel free to contact the

The end of school year 2006-2007 entails the unveiling of the academic program
for school year 2007-2008, the planning of which has been ongoing throughout
the year. A brief description of some of the additions to the curriculum
follows. Classes for the following year will span the academic spectrum. For
a complete listing and description of all courses, please
see the Curriculum Guide.
Senior Seminar: Humanities - This course will investigate models of
human achievement throughout history, with emphasis on an evolving
consciousness of moral and aesthetic values in both Eastern and Western
cultures.

Gunnery ice hockey forward Austin Smith '07 (son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B.
Smith of Irving, TX) was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the fifth round, #128
of the National Hockey League. In a press release Stars Assistant General
Manager Les Jackson said, "He has a ton of talent, he has a great work ethic,
and he has a burning desire to play in the NHL. We would have taken him no
matter where he was born."
A forward at The Gunnery, the 5'11", 160 lb., Smith had a record of 25 goals
and 38 assists in his senior season of 30 games. As a junior, his efforts
earned him the team's 2005-2006 Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year
honors, both awards which are voted on by his teammates.

After finishing with one of the best records in Gunnery history, the Girls'
Lacrosse team was recently named WNEPSWLA Co-Champions of Class B. The team
shares this honor with Williston-Northampton, who was the reigning Class B
Champions in 2006. The Highlanders finished with an impressive 10-1-2 for
the season. Highlights include wins over powerhouses Hopkins School and
Millbrook and an overtime win over Suffield.
