The Gunnery, a co-educational boarding school in northwest Connecticut, has received the largest gift in its history—a $7 million commitment from the Tisch family. The gift represents the generosity of Joan H. Tisch, widow of the late Preston Robert Tisch, and sons Steve E.Tisch and Jonathan M. Tisch, Gunnery class of '67 and'72, respectively.
This extraordinary donation reflects a continuation of the family's longtime support of the school, which began when Jonathan and Steve were students at The Gunnery. The Tisch Library was dedicated in 1975. In 1990 the Tisch Chair for Excellence in Teaching was established. Since then, such capital projects as the Emerson Performing Arts Center and Teddy House Dormitory have benefited from the family's support. [continued]

Prom Senior Dinner Spring Carnival

Bourne Garden received a face lift this past May when Jason Boileau '10, Admissions Officer, Peter Whitney, and the Outdoor Club planted several bushes and plants just in time for the spring season. To pay for the numerous (and expensive) plants, Jason held fundraisers including a dress down day and a volleyball game to raise money. Although this was not Jason's first philanthropic endeavor, it was his first time leading the effort. "Fundraising is tough," said Jason. "It takes a lot of work and perseverance, but it all pays off in the end."
Peter, with his green thumb, chose the plants that he thought would be appropriate for the area including Annabelle hydrangeas and blue fescue. The latter was chosen to pay tribute to the past. "I was told there used to be a small pool of water in the middle of the garden," said Peter. "We picked the fescues because it gives the impression of water passing by because of its blue hue."

Leland Kurfess '82 nailed the year as 1982. Douglas Francis '82 wrote, "Too funny, love that 1980's roller-disco outfit! Art Lobdel is in the cowboy hat, and Peter Bergen is in the bowler up front. Jeepers, those shorts were short..." Shelley Caroe WR '76 suggested we figure out how to enlarge the photo for easier identification and Russ Elgin helped fill in the blanks.
This is the Butler dorm photo for the 1982 yearbook: Charles Dobbs '85, Art Lobdell '82, Chris Barrette '85, Michael Meehan '84, Tom Buckley '84, and Peter Bergen '84. Russ couldn't come up with Shalaan's first name and he's listed as a lost alumnus.

Tyler Farmen '00 has P.L. Travers and Walt Disney to thank for his new exhibition, Mr. Poppins Workshop, currently showcased at the Washington Arts Association (Washington, CT). While attending a performance of the musical version of Mary Poppins on Broadway, Tyler was immediately struck with the protagonist's uncanny ability to breathe life into "lifeless objects and people" such as chimney sweeps and old bird ladies. He went back to his art studio in Washington, CT and created a body of work celebrating objects labeled as "undesirable" or "disregarded."

For the past twenty years, Norma Davis '79 has had a successful and fulfilling career as an attorney specializing in civil rights and disability law. She worked with several firms and organizations including the New York City Commission on Human Rights, Peabody and Brown, and Disability Rights of New Jersey, to name a few. "I've always wanted to be a lawyer since I was eight or nine," said Norma. "However, when I graduated college, I knew I didn't want to do it right away."

The Gunnery Music Department closed out its season with a spring concert featuring the jazz band, rock band, Troubadours, world drumming, and private music lesson students. The musical offerings were contemporary, light, and fun which was a deep contrast to the secular and traditional pieces offered at other concerts throughout the year.
