Unless you have been living under a rock these past few months, you have probably been attuned to the most ground-breaking Democratic primary in American history. Love it, hate it, or love to hate it; it has, like all elections, been thoroughly covered in all the media. No one knows this better than CNN Producer, Carey Bodenheimer '87. Assigned to the coverage of the Democratic Party, she serves as a field producer covering the candidates and their campaigns. Travelling with CNN political correspondents, Carey goes from political event to political event, bringing the story to the world. [continued]

"The hills were alive with the sound of music" this spring as the Troubadours, the Chorale, World Drumming, and the Jazz Ensemble performed in concerts, solo recitals and music festivals. Music Director Jennifer Wojcik and private music teachers Edward Aureli, Barbara Geary, Joe Bouchard, John Marshall, Oksana Protenic, and others prepared the students for the events. Former Gunnery Music Director, Kristin Richards returned to help out when Ms. Wojcik was out on maternity leave. [continued]

Jonathan Hartmann '08 is known on the Gunnery campus for his thoughtful poetry and writings, but very few know of his other passion. "I've been a photographer for ages (as a hobby)," said Jon "I have always had an interest in this art form." His hobby came to life on May 19th when 25 photos showcasing recent work were displayed at the Gunn Memorial Library. His exhibit focused on the industrial buildings in the Waterbury and Roxbury, CT areas. [continued]

Like many members of the school community, Ross Anderson '09 and Shelby Sisco '09, noticed that internet connections on campus had slowed considerably the last few years. Instead of complaining and settling, they decided to do something about it. With the help and guidance of BJ Daniels, Director of Information Technology, they found that they needed additional broadband width in order to install fiber optic networks. Mr. Daniels explained that this piece of equipment came with a hefty price tag. "We learned that we had to raise $25, 000.00," said Ross. Over a two month period, Ross and Shelby organized three fundraising initiatives - one involved the students, the other two involved the alumni. [continued]

Trivia Question for May: In what way was the railroad that ran from Hawleyville through Washington to Litchfield from 1874 to 1948 distinctive from a national point of view?

Answer for May: The Shepaug Railroad included from "150-200 curves (depending on who was counting) as its trains labored over 32 miles of track to travel 17 miles as the crow flies." The Shepaug was second only to the Mt. Tamalpais & Muir Woods Railroad in California in terms of the number of bends in its railbed.

Commercial litigator, Peter Gallagher '84 delineated the key components to a successful trial: First, hope for an intellectual, bright, and meticulous judge who will fully engage him or herself into the legal and factual issues. Second, go in with an idea of how to effectively present an argument. Finally and most importantly, develop an absolute mastery of the material. As a partner of Kennedy, Johnson, and Gallagher, LLC, Peter has practiced what he preaches and more during his fifteen year career in trial work involving business and commercial disputes.

Peter decided he wanted to be a lawyer at a very young age after seeing several members of his family practice the profession. While at The Gunnery, he practiced and honed his public speaking and debating skills. A graduate of Bowdoin College majoring in Chinese Studies and History, Peter lived in China for a semester. At the time, he saw a country in economic transition. He later returned to the States to attend Columbia Law School.

Peter started at a firm in 1992 and became partner in 1999. At the firm, he worked on litigation and, briefly, transaction work. He disliked the latter, stating, "I found it boring and was rotten at it. I did it in my first few months at the firm." [continued]
