This reunion weekend brings a bittersweet yet celebratory feeling to the campus. Just a few days after the students leave, old friends return to give one last breath of life to the campus. For the second year in a row, Gunnery alumni joined friends from Wykeham Rise alumnae to remember the past and toast the future.

Andrew Littauer '60 was facing a dilemma upon completing the Foreign Service exam shortly after college. "I was interviewed by the CIA, but they felt it wasn't right for me," he said. "I couldn't be anonymous enough. I asked myself, `How could I have a career in foreign affairs?'" The Political Science major found his answer in the most unlikely of places when the banking world allowed him to work and transfer overseas.

This past July, a new face, a new voice, a new Director of Institutional Advancement arrived at The Gunnery in the person of Barbara Sabia. Barbara brings a wealth of experience in non-profit philanthropy, having most recently been the principal of her own firm, Advancement Consulting Services in Litchfield, CT. Asked about her reaction to her new environment Barbara said, "I was immediately attracted to the warmth and vibrancy of the community. My interactions with students, staff and trustees reinforced that this is a school with a genuine heart and a strong sense of community."

Yes, Parents' Weekend is a chance to meet your child's teachers. Yes, it is a chance to hear how well (or poorly) they are doing. And of course, it is a chance to see your child after seven weeks of being away from home. However, there is one other event that kicks off the weekend. It can be best described as "The Gunnery social event of the year." Starting early Friday evening, current parents (sans children) can have some adult time at the 4th Annual Gunnery Parents' Weekend Auction. Items, from the practical to the extravagant, are put up for bid in an exciting, yet relaxed atmosphere. In the past, luxury packages included Red Sox game tickets, Coach Bags, weekend trips, and Broadway theater tickets. Other items up for bid include: front row seats for Gunnery Commencement, faculty-hosted dinner parties, and Parents' Weekend "cut to the front of the line" passes.
"This is Gunnery at its most fun," said Gunnery Auction Co-Chair, Dee Dee Hill. "It's a chance for parents to get to know each other." The silent and live auctions are only part of the fun. Gourmet food, unlimited libations, and great conversation are promised at this annual fall event.
Parents' Weekend updates will be featured in the Gunnery Day2Day newsletter, and on the Parent Council page at www.gunnery.org. Click here for photos from last year's Parents' Weekend.

Almost everyone knows at least some part of the Stray Shot story - not the literary magazine; I mean, the errant Civil War cannon ball. This year's triumphal presentation at graduation rehearsal was staged by four stalwart seniors, Priyanka Shetty, Erin Kelly, Lindsay Lincoln, and L.B. Schmidt, encouraged and abetted by the tennis coach, Jim Graham. Of course, just as quickly as it appeared at the door of the church, it was whisked away to be hidden for the rising seniors in the class of 2009.

Dr. Henry van Dyke was the speaker and there were seven graduates.

Despite a turbulent job market, Justin DeLauri '00 has managed to survive and prosper within his profession. While other companies have seen massive layoffs, his organization has not taken too much of a hit. One can say that he picked the right profession. "I am a resource manager for Millennium Consulting," he said."I do IT recruiting. The way the world works now, you will always need IT."
A 2004 graduate of Bryant College in Rhode Island, Justin began his career selling medical devices. Shortly thereafter, he worked as a light industrial engineer and later as a consultant. He started working at Millennium Consulting's Boston office in November 2007. The company has other offices in Philadelphia, Tampa, Providence, and most recently, Puerto Rico.
"I work with the sales department here. That consists of project managers, business management, and support staff." A job requirement will be given to him from the sales team. Justin will then call any suitable candidates within the company's database.
