Tara Friedman This is a busy time of year for Tara Friedman '03. "This is the end of the year for our clients," said Tara. Along with eight to ten people on her business team, she examines and approves a company's financial statements in order for investors to have confidence in the financials of those companies when they make investments. Currently, she is busy working with two clients with varying time frames.

Tara began her career with PwC as an intern during her junior year at Babson College. As an accounting major, she started working in the insurance division before transferring to real estate as a full-time employee. [continued]

Author Debby Applegate to Speak at The Gunnery On Friday April 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting House on The Green in Washington, author Debby Applegate will present the 2008 Distinguished Author reading and talk in the ongoing Gunnery Speaker Series. Her book, The Most Famous Man in America: The Biography of Henry Ward Beecher won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for biography. Ms. Applegate follows such recent authors as Dr. Henry Kissinger, Russell Banks, Richard Russo, Ha Jin, Frank McCourt and poet, W.S. Merwin. She will sign copies of her books for members of the audience. The public is invited to the presentation and admission is free.

Ms. Applegate's subject is of particular interest to The Gunnery and Gunnery students because Mr. Beecher's children were students of Mr. Gunn, and he was close to the school. He was supposed to have written the introduction to Master of The Gunnery, the biography of Mr. Gunn, but was gravely ill with his final illness. [continued]

The Opening Day victory puts the defending Western New England champions at 1-0 for the season.

Wednesday again allowed The Gunnery to establish itself as an outstanding defensive team, with fundamental execution resulting in errorless baseball that kept Millbrook from establishing any momentum. The recent reception at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT initiated a joint effort by the Advancement and Admissions Offices. In combining the constituencies, alumni, current parents, trustees and faculty mingled with prospective parents from Manhattan and Fairfield counties. "I think this was a great success," said Thomas Hollinger, Director of Advancement. "The museum was a wonderful venue, and our host, Peter Sutton ’68 (Executive Director of the Bruce Museum) could not have been any more gracious."

"Five prospective families attended," said Tommy Adams, Director of Admissions. "I received an email recently from a mother who attended and loved every minute of it. I hope it is the first of many events hosted by Advancement and Admissions." [continued]

When he applied at The Gunnery in the mid-sixties, the Admissions Director was skeptical about the prospects for his success at the school. "You have bad grades, and you’re not good at sports," he said to Chris. "Why should we let you in? What can you do?"

"Well, I can play the organ." Chris replied.

To Chris's surprise, he was accepted at the school under one condition. At the time, The Gunnery had daily chapel and, shortly before Chris's interview, the organist had killed himself. The young musician from central New York was admitted to the school if he agreed to play daily services. Chris accepted, and the rest is history. [continued]
